The 2009 SXSW Music Keynote speech from Quincy Jones contained many unforgettable moments. Among them was a series of stories about his work and friendship with Michael Jackson. After meeting on the set of "The Wiz," Jackson convinced Jones to produce his next record, and went against label advice to pursue this collaboration. What ensued was history, and 'Q' shares his unique perspective on the blockbuster of 'Thriller' and the breaking of racial barriers at MTV. As we remember Michael Jackson's music and note his deep and wide cultural impact, we thank Quincy Jones for sharing his remarkable life stories at SXSW '09. May 4, 2010 - @productions271 What does Quincy supporting Hillary Clinton have to do with Mike? Mike was good friends with the Clinton family. He was good friends with Deepak's family. Deepak is also good friends with the Clintons. I don't remember MJ talking about US politics or getting involved. Are you suggesting that Quincy is bad because he didn't campaign for a half-White and half-African US citizen? Was Quincy wrong for campaigning for a white woman :) I don't get it :) Much Love, Chris in Indiana

May 29, 2010 - @NoarNoir The situation that started the split in the relationship between Michael And Quincy was that Quincy was recording "Back On The Block" back in 1989 and he wanted Michael on the album. Sony Entertainment refused to let Michael work on Quincy's album. Quincy was furious at Sony and I think Michael too. Quincy felt that both stabbed him in the back and promised never to produce another MJ album.

CafeObsessionTV Says:

May 29, 2010 - @NoarNoir There's a interview that Quincy did back in 1989 on the Arsenio Hall show back when Quincy was promoting "Back On The Block" and he mentions what happened. But that led to Michael working with other producers outside of Quincy.

NoarNoir Says:

May 30, 2010 - @CafeObsessionTV Thank you for the respond, I remember that. I have a lot respect for Quincy, but MJ did photo shoot for Vibe QJ magazine ran by his daughter in 1995. Quincy is genius but he shouldn't blame MJ cuz the last biggest success he has achieved was collaboration with MJ. I mean QJ + MJ =magic in motion. QJ produced great artist, he received Oscar, man is a legend. But QJ is still bitter to this day, and did a lot of damage to MJ by denying artistic ability like composition etc.

CafeObsessionTV Says:

May 30, 2010 - @NoarNoir I think..and I can't speak for Quincy. But, I think Quincy felt that Mike had the power to fight Sony on that decision and Michael didn't fight Sony. Because, let's face it, from 1979 all the way til '93 when the first child allegation, Michael controlled the business. So....I think it really rubbed Q the wrong way when Michael didn't side with Quincy and that carried all the way to Mike's death.

NoarNoir Says:

May 31, 2010 - @chrisandalec MJ was 2x in inauguration of Bill Clinton , huge contributor/donator, he raised a lot of money for democrats, gave the last concert in 2003 in Apollo for democrat party. MJ was involved in politics, just he never spoke publicly about it, that I know of.

NoarNoir Says:

May 31, 2010 - @CafeObsessionTV Label record always pulls the string, they are master minds to make and break the artist. I don't think MJ had much power as we like to think. In 70's MJ wanted Q in the team, not other way around, Q wasn't even sure he wanted to produce MJ. MJ always said that the best time he had was working w/Quincy, probably was the timeline that had to finish his album was prohibiting of working with Q's. Quincy produced mega stars since the '60s didn't need MJ to make a great album IMHO

chrisandalec Says:

May 31, 2010 - @NoarNoir Yeah, I agree...I think that he wanted to stay away from politics; however, he and Bill Clinton were fairly good friends. I did see the Apollo performance via Youtube for the DNC fundraiser. I wish that I could have seen all of the performance :) I just don't understand when these "supposed MJ fans" put Bill and Hillary down, when he clearly was friends with them...so much in fact, that he did participate in a few political events. Thank you for the comment!! Much Love. Chris in Indy

NoarNoir Says:

May 31, 2010 - @chrisandalec There are fans upset why Bill or his wife didn't participate in memorial speech, since they were friends, but Repulican Sheila Jackson Lee was and held a beautiful speech also she talked about resolution 600 debating on the floor of house rep. claiming MJ an American Legend and musical icon a world humanitarian honored 4ever(MJ didn't even raise donation for republicans he did for democrats) for but was shut down by dem. Irony rite?

chrisandalec Says:

May 31, 2010 - @NoarNoir I definitely agree with you regarding Bill Clinton (he definitely should have been there....either for the memorial or the burial; however, maybe he KNOWS something that we do not....I can only pray). That being said, why in the world did our own current President barely even speak about MJ (and almost seemed insulted when he was finally asked the question). Our current President's answer was very disappointing. You do have a point though. Much Love, Chris in Indy

NoarNoir Says:

May 31, 2010 - @msblossom77 You know the part of the song Wanna be starting something: the African chant mamamacussamamacuse in Thriller album, for that part he was suit. Can u imagine in 2008 was deposition court for that part of the song, and the song was made in '80s. MJ settle out of the court cuz at the end years of his life he was getting tired of going to court and going thru same crap. MJ was tortured indeed.

Jun 27, 2010 - This makes me so sad!!! Michael was such a shining star and ppl just took his sparkle away until he died. I love you Michael.

truth8809 Says:

Jun 27, 2010 - @NoarNoir do you know what that african chant means?

NoarNoir Says:

Jun 27, 2010 - @truth8809 Ma -ma se, Ma -ma sa, ma -ma coo sa. "MAKOSSA" or "MACOOSA" means "I dance" in Duala (one of African languages).("Wanna be starting something" is about baby mama @young age who can't feed their babies and have a breakdown, being on the mercy of society-mama se mam-sa mama-coosa Soul Makosa 1973 by Manu Dibango sings: :mamaku mamasa makumakusa (it is not utterly the same) song is about dance. Now from 1973 to 2008 is 35yrs 2 long wait for suing some1 for the song or sampling.

NoarNoir Says:

Jun 28, 2010 - @NoarNoir Cont' Under copyright law MJ actually did not violate anything, according to the law singer are allowed to take 1 line as long as they do not take the 20% or more of entire song,...Michael Jackson settled out of the court more out of ethical principles. LEGALLY HE DIDN'T HAD TO PAY A PENNY. MJ didn't sample the song, nor used more than what 3 words with mispronunciation. MJ was sweet person.

miznatacha Says:

Jun 28, 2010 - Aw, 'So-cray-tees" - MJ was so cute and sweet. :)
